Byron Brekenfeld
- Dallas Alumni Chapter President
The year 2001 has been an ever-changing year for me. I've been on
4 vacations (2 of 'em were FREE), bought our first house, changed
jobs, celebrated 2 years of marriage, and have still remained active
in Phi Chi Theta as the chapter president of the Dallas
Alumni Chapter.
I just recently joined the technology team at Sally
Beauty Company as a Senior Systems Analyst. I formerly worked
for CitiGroup
as a Systems Analyst in their Credit Card Operations.
I really enjoyed meeting a lot of you at the Western Regional Meeting
in Austin, TX this summer.
If you're interested in more information about the Dallas Alumni
Chapter, feel free to e-mail me at byronb99@hotmail.com

Mike
Van Roy - Alumnus-at-large - Since Sept. '00
I've been with Robert Bosch Corporation, a German multinational
auto parts manufacturer with US subsidiaries. Bosch made the brake
systems, spark plugs, and starters in your car. Our Research and
Technology Center (RTC) is in Silicon Valley with a smaller office
in Pittsburgh, PA. I was the finance and purchasing specialist for
both locations and reported to the Executive VP. Now I have been
promoted to division controller on 7/1/01. Our research targets
driver safety and convenience with projects like hands free Internet/Intranet
access for the car, driver assistants that will not only warn the
driver of danger ahead but can take control of the car if the driver
can't, and wearable computers for mechanics to diagnose cars faster
and more accurately. We have joint research projects with science
and engineering departments at UC Berkeley, MIT, Stanford, the Dale
Carnegie-Bosch Institute, and automaker Daimler-Chrysler. Bosch-RTC
is also pursuing joint projects with GM and Toyota and providing
venture capital to technology startups.
I am also trying to
reestablish the Silicon Valley Alumni chapter. We really should
have a stronger presence in this strategic part of the business
landscape. If you are in the area and want to be part of Phi Chi
Theta again please contact
me with your ideas.
David
Stroud - Beta Chi - I am Graduate Assistant
to the Men's soccer team at Lake
Erie College and I am working on my MBA. I am also trying to
start up a new chapter of Phi Chi Theta at LEC. They have a great
Business program and having a Phi Chi Theta chapter at LEC would
be a great idea! Please send me any ideas and suggestions that y'all
(you all) have. Go Skyhawks!!
Frances
Spencer - The Board of Trustees of ICSC (International
Council of Shopping Centers) has awarded the ICSC Board of Trustees
Distinguished Service Award for 2002 to Frances Spencer, SCSM/SCMD,
Assistant Commissioner, City of Chicago. This award recognizes her
efforts with the ICSC Alliance Program to bring public and private
sectors together in a spirit of cooperation to achieve urban retail
development. The Retail Chicago program has become a catalyst for
retail development in Chicago, and a model for other cities struggling
with ways to revitalize their urban retail areas. In the 45 year
history of ICSC, only 69 Distinguished Service Awards have been
given, and this is the first time that one has been awarded to a
public sector member. Fran is a former member of Delta Chapter,
and currently is serving as President of the Chicago Alumni Chapter.
She was a winner of the Phi Chi Theta Professional Writing Award
in 2001, and also received a Phi Chi Theta Key award in 2001.
